How About a Jumbo Co Op

ROFL I was just messing with you. You're welcome, of course.

(My previous reply was because I've heard far too many people use that phrase in a snarky way. I didn't take it that way in this case.)

YOU ARE CORRECT DAVID THE ORIGINAL TEXAS A&MS WERE NOT WHITE BIRDS-- EVER. THE WHITE WAS A CHANGE THAT HAPPENED AT THE COMMERCIAL FARMING FACILITY FOR APPERANCE REASONS... SEEMS FOLKS THING THE LACK OF PIGMENT IN THE WHITE MAKES FOR A CLEANER LOOKING CARCASS??

Yes, the lack of pigment makes for a lighter skin. The meat is the exact same color based on age. It also tastes the same. I figure I lost about $2000 last year over the moby quail myth, but there is always next year. THANKS MOBY QUAIL Folks! YOUR WELCOME JOE!

Now I'm talking to myself....

It's OK to talk to yourself, it's even OK to answer yourself - it's only if you say "huh" that you've got to start worrying

I had some A&M white birds last year and bought some jumbo browns (by accident; thought I was buying 16 oz white birds!). Not sure if I had a unique situation, but my white A&M's had much broader and larger breasts than the Jumbo browns. The browns were big birds, no doubt, but they did not seem to have the 'fullness' and 'meatiness' of the white birds.

I am confused as to the differences between birds if the browns were the ones created by Texas A&M originally to be the biggest birds.

Do others have Jumbo browns that compare to the white birds?

YES JOHN THERE ARE BROWNS OUT THERE AS BIG. IN ACTUALITY THE WHITE A&M'S WERE A TAD SMALLER THAN THE ORIGINAL BROWNS. THEY WERE CREATED IN WHITE(FROM THE ORIGINAL FORM OF BROWNS) FOR COMMERCIAL MEAT INDUSTRY THAT WANTED A CLEANER LOOKING CARCASS... AS THE WHITES LACK PIGMENT IN MOST OF THE FOLICALS AND HOCK JOINTS THEY SELECTIVELY BRED THE ORIGINAL BIRDS TO ENGLISH WHITES TO GET THE JUMBO WHITES MANY NOW CALL A&M'S. THE WHITE ADDITION WAS CREATED AFTER THE ORIGINAL STRAIN OF TEXAS A&M COTURNIX WERE RELEASED TO INDUSTRY AND THE STUDY WAS COMPLETED...

I WONT SAY THERE ARE NO 16 COTURNIX IN ANY COLOR, I WILL SAY THEY ARE RARE, AND IF YOU DO FIND THEM #1 STAY IN GOOD WITH YOUR SOURCE, #2 THEY NEED VERY VERY SELECTIVE BREEDING TO MAINTAIN THAT. #3 ITS PROBABLY EASIER TO BUY THE LOCH NESS MONSTER FOR YOUR FISHTANK. MANY A PERSON HAS INVESTED COUNTLESS DOLLARS AND TIME AND EFFORT PERSUEING "THE GREAT WHITE QUAIL" = THUS THE SHORT VERSION- MOBY QUAIL

I actually agree with you. Had to read it, go collect eggs, reread it. Yup, still agreed.

BUT, I thought this thread was about JUMBO'S and starting up a Co-op for trading them to keep up the lines. Even at that there is going to be new blood added, more birds bought and sold, yada, yada. So, has anyone signed up to join the co-op?

Diggypaws?
