As big as you can afford! Because you are unlikely to stop at just 12!
I don't disagree - however, in an overcrowded coop (as this would be) having the *option* of escape into the run can be a good thing if/when something happens during the hours that the chickens would normally be confined with the coop locked up.If they have access to the run at night make sure the run has a floor and ceiling that a predator can't climb into or dig under. Most chickens tend not to use the run at night. Too exposed. They like the safe confined feeling of their coop and you might like that secure feeling of locking them in at night.

Thank y'all for the ideas! I am getting a Quaker style coop built it's 4x6 and 5ft tall. Every site I look at says they will hold 12-15 chickens. I don't have bantams. I will get a run big enough run built for them. They will run in and out all day/night as long as I don't have predator problems since I live way out in the country.
