How can I get them to eat eggs?

That's just sad. I would think seeing those poor caged hens in their gross, poopy environment, and knowing that food comes from them would make someone WANT eggs from happy chickens that are able to roam about. I have been pretty lucky. We raise cattle and hogs so my kids don't have any problem eating something that wasn't right from the store, and the same is true for the eggs (although we have barely started getting any-but the first 5 were scrambled and shared by all of us). But I could see them being picky if we had to eat one of our chickens.

Depending upon the age of your children, you may tell them that you can taste the "sadness" in store bought eggs. I would definitely show them a video of battery hens and let them decide on their own.

My kids are 13 and 10. I talked to them today. My 10 year old seems a little more willing. My 13 year old just wont do it. He doesn't want to see where eggs come from. Before they came from a store. He didn't think about them coming from a chicken. Tonight I am making pumpkin pie from scratch. I am adding our eggs. My daughter (10 yr old) wants to try it my son (13 yr old) said no way. O well that's more for me! I made a home made egg muffin for my breakfast and ohh'd and ahh'd about how good it was. My son loves cheese and milk. I wonder what he would do if we got a cow???! I think eventually he will break but he is so stubborn!

How old are your kids? Try telling them the chicken really wanted to make them some food, but since they can't cook they made an egg and asked you to cook it for the kids? Depending on the age of your kids it might work....

My daughter always tell me her "HunnyPooch" made an egg for her, but needs me to cook it...

Glad you sat down and talked with them. Praising the 10 year-old for trying new things will help serve as a model for the 13 year-old.

His choice, but always very frightening to me just how detached we are from our food. Great job to you for altering your food sources.

I would just explain to your family that you are not a short-order cook, that you will not buy eggs at the store and will not cook store bought eggs. Then you make what you want to eat and let them fend for themselves if they don't want to eat it. My guess is, after a week or so of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or whatever they can make for themselves, your eggs, cakes and pumpkin pies will start to look mighty tasty. It's how I got my boys to eat vegetables. No fighting about it. Just "this is what I'm willing to do".

I also would find a way to get them to watch the videos about battery hens and the conditions those eggs are produced in. Like the next time they want something from you (money, a ride, or whatever) then you tell them the price for you giving them what they want is that they have to watch this video. As a society we are much less healthy because we are so ignorant of what goes into our "food." This is definitely a case where knowledge is power (and health).

I tried to force them and it didn't work. So now I will wait until it happens on its own. I don't think this will last forever.

13 y/o boy? Just cook EVERY meal with the home eggs. He doesn't like it, he can have a PB & J. Better if you make the bread at home with home eggs in that also.

He will soon give in and eat home eggs.
