How can I keep my brooder from reeking

Another thing that I can already see being an issue is your coop (which is the upper portion) is lacking in ventilation.

@FathertoFeathers Cut a big vent over the pop door, the run roof will protect it from rain and high winds.

Not sure 10 JG are gong to fit in that coop in the long term.

I’m not planning on keeping all of them. I’m giving most of them to friends who have chickens. You can’t see it from the picture but there is a vent in the back of the coop. I ended up keeping them inside last night because it got in the low tens and not the twenties. Thank you for the help!

I have a good mod, but not sure it would work here.

I am currently raising 10 jersey giant chicks who are about three weeks old. Today when I got home from school the brooder smelled bad! How do I keep the brooder smelling good?

I had the same... I used sawdust only.
I moved them into a baby playpen and at first didn5 put sawdust down as didn’t think necessary (they were in the same tub as yours but need that for new hatched chicks )

after a day without sawdust it smelt terrible!!! So, for me, it’s sawdust that helps as it absorbs the smells but has the wood shaving scent ... hope that helps!

I can do modifications and the nesting boxes are on the back wall of the coop.

I apologize if I was doing this wrong. I was going off of things that I read on this website and others. I was told I shouldn’t put the chicks outside if they were under 6 weeks old and to decrease the heat by five degrees every week. I wasn’t trying to be a bad chick owner I was only trying to do what I thought you were supposed to.

You are obviously trying to learn and do your best. I’m glad you removed the blanket. I think if you can get them in your coop that would be best. If need be partition of a corner and put the heat lamp in it. Chickens are smarter then we give them credit for they will go towards the heat when they need it unless they get stuck. Good luck!!
