This looks like a situation where the dog requires more resources than available. The same trap often befalling keepers of LGD's and other larger active dogs.

The field is for the whole trailer park to use, so because I live in the trailer park, I can use it. I do need to bring him close sometimes because crazy people with four wheelers can sometimes drive very crazy around there, or on the way there. I do like the sounds of a 50 and 100 foot leash, but I don't know if it'll work when I'm taking him by the road.Is there any sort of field near you that you could get permission to use? You are able to buy 50 and 100 foot leashes to allow for some exciting games of fetch while remaining on leash.
Like, what? How does it not work? I do get nervous when I see the leash running out because I can't put my arm through a loop to have a better grip. Other than that, it works good for me and I'm fine with it. I'd like to keep it and use it. Please don't be mad at me for chosing to keep it.It does until it doesn't. I can't make you get rid of it, but I will maintain that it's a bad idea.
Sterling is a male... Pink isn't a very manly color for him. If I used it, it'd probably embarrasse him........
?
If you don't like the color pink, I suppose that you could get a different leash, but IMO it doesn't matter what color the leash is.
The really long ones are for giving lots of running and fetch play in an open space, not for just walkingThe field is for the whole trailer park to use, so because I live in the trailer park, I can use it. I'm not mad at you, I'm so sorry if I came across that way! I just consider them dangerous, as well as making training much more difficult.Like, what? How does it not work? Dogs can only see shades of blue, yellow, and greySterling is a male... Pink isn't a very manly color for him. If I used it, it'd probably embarrass him...
Yeah that’s understandable! I would definitely try to do as long a one as you can though if possible. I sometimes go for like 45 mins to an hourYeah. I like doing the half hour walk/run more, but sometimes I'm not able to. As far as letting him off the leash, I'm too scared that he'll run away. What I do with him seems to be good with him. His previous owners said that he was hyper, but with the exercise that I do with him, he's pretty layed back. He's 2.5 years old.
As far as the e collar, what you said is very informational. Thank you. Maybe someday I'll use one, but with a new dog and zero experience with one, I probably won't be using one soon.
Oh, ok. When I have him by the road, I sometimes will retract it quite a bit, and sometimes completely retract it when he sees another dog so I can grab his harness in a hurry if I need to. That's one of the things I like about it.The really long ones are for giving lots of running and fetch play in an open space, not for just walking
They are definitely separate leashes. However, if you don't like the idea of a 50 foot leash by the road, the retractable is essentially the same thing, just thinner and weaker.

Oh, ok. Either way, I'm a little concerned that the handle might break on that leash too, (I think of that when I'm walking a neighbor's pit bull/boxer mix named Millie. I use that leash for her, and she pulls a lot more than Sterling.) They sure can't see much if that's the only colors. Do they see in different shades?Dogs can only see shades of blue, yellow, and grey![]()
I do the same when walking a dog by gathering up the slack of the leash in my hand, and putting the tension on the appropriate place to 'shorten' the leash. This also allows them to not get tangled if that is an issue.Oh, ok. That is a valid concern with a leash, especially if it is old.Ok.

If it hasn't broken for her, I would consider it fine to use with Sterling until you can get a new one in whatever color you like, that has no risk of a handle breaking., (I think of that when I'm walking a neighbor's pit bull/boxer mix named Millie. I use that leash for her, and she pulls a lot more than Sterling.)
I'm not an expert on dog vision, but I believe that they can see different shades of blue, yellow, and everything else is different shades of grey, and they can also process light, depth, and shadow (unless they have vision issues). It's not like they don't see everything else (pink leash isn't invisible) but their eyes just process it differently. Think of it like a black and white movie, with some colors filled in.They sure can't see much if that's the only colors. Do they see in different shades?
