How Did You Discover BYC?

I had been reading a website about gardening and cooking and the author kept mentioning her chickens. Well, started googling and reading about keeping chickens which lead to all the different breeds and then it was types of coops and one thing lead to another.

My husband and I are building a new house and it would be perfect to add a coop and chickens in with the garden. The Backyard chicken site kept coming up when I'd be looking for information and I finally ran into the forum. I'm hooked.

We don't have chickens yet but I'm learning from all of you!!!

I ran a google search for "keeping chickens" and BYC popped right up. It was the first site I checked out in my search results and I was hooked, I never did check out those other sites in the search results!

I didn't have chickens at the time and only intended to get about 6 or so for eggs, but all these enablers on here worked their magic and now I have 38 with plans to expand next spring!

I found this site one day, when I was doing one of the things I do best....Surfing the net and looking up stuff....I never imagined that I would find such a wonderful place as BYC.

My dad raised chickens when I was growing up. I didn't get back into the chickens, until I married my second hubby. He wanted to get chickens. I was like I don't know. (We live on a dead end road. )One day, someone dumped some chickens. I enjoyed watching them. Of course, we fed them. Anyway, we started raising chickens. Now, we have many different breeds of chickens, ducks and one turkey.

When I finally decided I was going to get the chickens I have wanted since I was a little girl, I was Googling around and found this site. It made keeping chickens in the city seem doable. So I got two. Then five more. And now I'm incubating eggs. And I'm looking for a place outside of the city limit so I can keep as many chickens as I want!

A member on here, hobobrando and I live in the same town and we decided to raise poultry. He told me about this site, which he was a member of. I was lurking around for about half the month of march, I then decided to become a member.

Mine is kinda long and confusing:
I had posted a problem on another chicken forum and evryone said I should put the hen down when I knew she could be saved (the problem was that she was standing like a penguin and her vent area was swollen but she was eating fine [my friend told me later that she had a disease that I forget the name of]). So someone else on that forum emailed me and said that she had deleted her account on that forum to join BYC. Saying that the ppl here were nicer and would rather try to save their sick chickens than put them down and buy new ones. So I checked this site out and I liked it. And a few days after I registered. My account is now deleted in that other forum.
