How do I fire the lawn guy nicely?

wonder what she will say......
We do our own and mow every day,
We have a large yard. People always
say its beutifull and that makes us feel
really good.....

Look, next time he comes tell him he just ain't cutting it. Ask him what you owe him and then tell him that he isn't holding up his end of the deal and you need somebody dependable since your home is your place of business.

I would give him a chance to shape up, tell him if he doesn't come more often you will have to find someone else. I would also ask the other guy if he is planning on returning to work when he is better.

Yeah, but that has generally involved moving whilst they are at work and leaving no forwarding address.

Ah ha!!!!! The conflict avoider. Let me tell you how I got over it. I realized that I was very unconfortable when I needed to confront somebody because I needed to let them go or they were getting on my nerves, or they were putting me in danger, or, well you get idea. Then I realized that the whole time I spent not dealing with the situation I would remain unconfortable. Then I realized that if I just said what needed to be said, then the uncomfortable would only last for those few moments it took me to tell the person/persons. So, I could wait and be uncomfortable for a long time, or I could get it over and only feel uncomfortable for a few moments and then the person who needed to feel uncomfortable would be doing so and I could get about my business

I know that probably that did not make since. If for some reason it did, I hope it helps

Yes, why indeed?

You don't really owe him any comment other than that his services are no longer required. Obviously, if he brings up the contract, you will have to point out that he violated it.

If you actually signed a contract, why did you not insist on a copy at the time?

On the question in the title of the post, I don't think "fire" and "nicely" go together. It is a time for being frank, not being nice.

Tell the lawn guy that with the current economy you have decided to sell your lawn and his services will no longer be needed. Thank him kindly and shut the door. Then watch out the peep hole so you can see the bewildered look on his face.

Okay, I did it. I took the easy way out, but I was honest and achieved the desired outcome.

I told him I was sorry, but money is tight and I have to cut back on my expenses.

What I didn't tell him is:

Now I have an extra $90/month to put toward my new chicken coop!

I guess I had best pull the lawn mower and the weed wacker out of the garage and see if they still work.

Thanks for all your help and the giggles along the way. I knew I could count on you lot.
