How Do I Get Rid of Predators?

I've never really had a problem with raccoons, but foxes are terrible. Haven't had them recently, but I'm prepared for those. But to be honest, the owner of the dog said they would pay for the chooks I lost, but I refused. They would have enough on their plate with their own dog.
That's very kind and thoughtful of you. I have spent a few years collecting my birds, growing them out and such. Their bill from me would be much more than the cost of just a replacement hatchery chick. Figure loss of eggs plus chicks I could otherwise be selling for all those months it takes to get my flock back to its' original status. But $ and new birds don't make up for the emotional toll it takes on you. That's great that they offered. But like you say they will have their hands full with the dog and such. Sounds like they MIGHT realize this is a serious situation and take measures to not have it happen again at least on their part. But that won't stop other dogs from possibly approaching. So I think you are right to look into solutions. I love my neighbors. Sometimes things happen that are accidental and that's a lot different than someone who practices negligence on a regular basis! My dogs are fenced... but we have storms and people lose fences, it happens.

Sounds like YOU are a good and caring neighbor! Who doesn't think only of yourself. Wish more people would consider others once in a while. It's nice to meet you and thank you for sharing your challenge that we might all learn something from it. :thumbsup

Also, as opposed to fencing your whole property which I know is pricey... might look into electric fencing. It's affordable and easy to install plus very effective if set up correctly. I use mine (solar) to contain my roosters in their stag pen because I control my genetics for mating.
Ah yeah, we have it mostly fenced off by barb wire and electric fencing.

Fencing or if trying to range them a chicken tractor are best options IMHO.

It stinks to lose birds that way.

Did the owner say they would contain their other dogs?
I'm sure they would, they know I'm not afraid to shoot their dogs one more time if they get into my coop.

That's so nice of you! I'm thinking it was an accident or something, because I've never seen the dogs before. I'm honestly glad I didn't kill their dog this time, but I am prepared for the worst. Hopefully they don't call the cops on me, that'd suck, haha.

If you killed their Dog and not permitted to shoot firearms you will get charged...Around here people shoot with air guns..Paintball guns...I have a Fox problem and we use firearms, although never tell anyone...
We didn't kill their dog, I think I shot her in the gut or the rear. I'm not sure.

Oh....Well I hope they don't come back at you now?...I had my neighbours charged when their Dog came and attacked mine here on my Property...The last time my vicious Border Collie was off his chain and almost killed their Dog for being here....My other Dogs run loose to watch over my livestock...

Ah, I see. Our dogs are mostly to be loud and to scare any robbers. They're more of chicken hunters than lovers. Super upset that they didn't go after the dogs by them.
