How Do I know Gender

I'm processing my chickens tomorrow.

I want to keep one rooster and 2-4 best hens.

But I just can't tell what is what?!

They all look the same to me. Tell me what to look for. Is there a way to look at vents? They all look the same!

Stringy feathers are roosters?

Barred Rocks, sexing can be done by amount of dark wash on their legs. But generally temperament is determined by the individual bird.

Bielefeder are auto sexing and dual purpose. I've never owned them before but I've heard that most have a good personality.

Bielefelders are auto-sexing, cockerels and pullets have different down colors at hatch.

Cream Legbars are also, but they may be flightier.

Legbars also won't yield a lot of meat I wouldn't think, which I believe is something OP is looking for.

Why do you not like Barred Rocks?

I have no experience with Bielefelders, but they are autosexing with down color.

They were spazy and high energy like a tweaker.

Okay, I've never had that experience with them.

Really? Because it was so bad we almost never got chickens again. I finally talked my husband into trying Orpington because people said they were calm and mellow. It took two years! He's worried about even trying a different breed in case. Because these guys are great.

How old are they and how many? I'm seeing six? lavender and one buff, I think. All of them that I can see clearly are cockerels. You can't tell by looking at the vent unless you're experienced, and at this age, male feathering is clearly visible. If you post pictures of them individually it should be much easier to tell what is what.
