How do I tame my chicks??!!

I've been researching the Pasty-Butt thread for suggestions, will try the hard-boiled egg this evening and tomorrow I'm going to find the probiotic powder to get the cause of the issue under control. They're already on medicated feed due to one having a rusty-tinged and goopy stool (one of our Giants from last night) - vet said it's probably coxy and had me start it for the whole flock (2 weeks) since he was put in last night and has been sharing the brooder with all the others before we saw evidence of the issue. They're still otherwise very active, eating and drinking well, going to change out bedding every other day and have been changing water/feeder every 12 hours max. He told me not to do anything with their water, even though I've seen a lot of suggestions both pro and against putting certain things in their water. He thinks this approach may solve the cause...for now, just washing their tails gently with patience and once I've got them cleaned and put some olive oil on the area surround their vents, I'm going to treat them to the egg....positive reinforcement

I once had a problem with pasty butt... It was not really fun trying to take the chicks from our broody hen, she always pecked us for messing with her babies! Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff, just hang in there...

Both sets of babies are absolutely ADORABLE!!! Great photos!

My little flock and I hit a milestone yesterday - I'd decided I was going to sit there as long as it took for them to get curious/trusting enough to come to me. I started out sitting there, with my hand in the brooder, next to the feeder and then added some feed to my hand. Most were sleeping, but my head honcho (he/she is the bravest and always the first to inspect any changes in the brooder) jumped right up into my hand, scratched around, pecked at the feed for a few minutes, and ROOSTED on my thumb knuckle! The rest woke up and cautiously made their way over to my hand, some pecking at the feed, others pecking at my hand to see my reaction...I just held perfectly still and within moments I was swarmed by 21 fuzzy-butts pecking and vying for my hand! Now, not only do they come to my voice when I go downstairs to check on them, they now don't fly to the other side of the brooder when I reach down to refill feed or change water.

I'm now down to two chicks that still have a little pastiness going on, and both of them seem to be going longer between cleanings and their droppings after I clean them off are more solid and colored correctly. One of the two allows me to pick him/her up without fussing as much, holds still while I moisten and clean off the vent, and only squirms a few times while I'm briskly drying the down with a paper towel. I go to put it back in the brooder and it'll just sit on my hand, then casually hop off!

Slowly but surely, trust is forming, I'm seeing personalities differentiate, I'm seeing a difference in the beginnings of tail feathers and tops of beaks, and pasty-butts are clearing up nicely!

I'll try to post some photos later today after I change out their bedding, probably in the thread "Post New Chick Photos Here."

Congratulations! My chicks are starting to trust a lot more! Last night we had to clean the brooder and, well... I had to catch the chicks! At first they were freaking out and tried jumping out of the brooder. But when I caught one, he was extremely calm!!! I didn't even hear a peep out of him, and he didn't even try escaping out of my hand! That was a first!!! I am about to go stick my hand in the brooder and see if they will still go eat out of my hand. Wish me the best of luck!!!

AWWW! I wish mine would do that. But they now get 10x more excited to see me and they now wait in the area where I put my hand full of food when I come in!!

Today's been a great day - 70 and partly cloudy here, but it won't stay (this IS Kentucky) so we made the most of it. Mowed and tilled a little, started garden seedlings, cleaned the brooder and finished the chicken yard. When they went back into a clean box, we gave them a dusting/dirt scratch box and some treats - and were rewarded greatly!!!

Today's been a great day - 70 and partly cloudy here, but it won't stay (this IS Kentucky) so we made the most of it. Mowed and tilled a little, started garden seedlings, cleaned the brooder and finished the chicken yard. When they went back into a clean box, we gave them a dusting/dirt scratch box and some treats - and were rewarded greatly!!!

You guys are soo lucky! I live in Washington and its rarely sunny... Today has been another rainy day... grrrrr! You guys have some cute chicks!! What type are they?
