How do you all do it?

We do it as a team, the children each have daily chores they do, and I do the rounds to make sure they do them. Mr Saddi and I have a split schedule, I work on hours he has off and vice versa, so someone is always here to keep the house flowing. There is no mens and womens work here, there are simply things that need doing, and whoever is available does them. I'm just as capable to take out trash and sweep the garage as he is to put dinner in the oven and set a timer, or mop. We divide things up by "who cares more?" he actually has better housekeeping skills than I do, and I out cook him so... he cleans I cook, and the kids pick up after themselves.

I don't work outside the home but I do still have five special needs kids at home so working outside would be a little difficult anyway. I too believe that kids need to have a few responsibilities. I average about 5 loads of laundry a day so that's usually a good place to start my day, then we take care of the animals and the rest of the day is pretty well scheduled depending on mood and where we're at in the season. Right now my days are filled with canning so the housework is going by the wayside. But I'll get everything caught up one day soon and then I may even take a day off.

You mean I'm supposed to take care of my children too? Oh flip, I knew I forgot something today.

When our kids were very small, we often let the German Shepherd Dogs keep an eye on them. I may have let that delegation go a bit too far. My daughter at two was used to pushing 90 lbs dogs aside, and it took a bit of re-training to get her to not knock other kids on their butts. She also used to bare her teeth and growl at other kids. Raised by wolves, I tell ya ... she seems normal now though ...

At seven, she's doing most of the chicken feeding, gathers the eggs, and fills the waterrer.

Well, now I kinda feel bad, but at least you don't work outside the home, and I am not saying, I hate the work, it makes my world go round. You also are alot younger than me, I am presuming. Just complaining a little, didn't mean to make it sound like I hate it, But I do hate cold weather.

Okay, I'll just say that I am in my 40's.

I agree, I hate cold weather too but there is nothing more beautiful than the morning after a light.fluffy snowfall (you know the one where it glistens) and when the sunlight hits the ground at a certain angle it actually looks like the ground is carpeted with diamonds.

I do hate being cooped up and not being able to get out and play with the chickens and other animals like we do.

I don't work outside of the home now but up until my last pregnancy, I worked 3 jobs, one full time and two part time. Please don't take this the wrong way b/c I am not putting down or bashing anyone but my dad raised us to work very hard. We had a very extensive chore list that had to be done every day and if it didn't look out. He was in the marines so it carried over into our home life. He was a drill sergeant. If he would tell us to do something, and it didn't meet his expectations then we had to do it over and over again until it did. When he would call us if we didn't get to him fast enough we had to go back to our original spot and run even faster. LOL

He was also a very strict football coach I might add. Anyway, I kind of got off the topic didn't I.... but we were raised to work very hard so that is who I am. I work, work and work some more. Right now it might not be outside the home but I see how much I can actually fit into a day. Most days don't end until around 2 am and begin around 7 the next morning. But I love it! I am sure it's pretty split between those who do and those who don't though. Here's some

that is gets easier or less mundane.

I work a full time job plus two part time jobs. I am a single mom. I have a house and 3 acres and a bunch of critters. Sometimes the house doesn't get cleaned unless my daughter does it; and sometimes the yard doesn't get mowed- ok,never- and the pen/coop could be cleaner but my animals are happy and healthy. I have gotten used to chaos.

That is why I love fall. Mowing does cease a bit, veggie garden is about done, and the daylily orders are slim to none now. That gives me more time on BYC. Oh, my kids can feed themselves now.

I used to not like winter but now I'm enjoying it more for baking, reading and making the wish list for chickens and ducks and turkeys, oh my!

I don't mind winter. I don't clean my coop (couldn't if I wanted to, it freezes solid). All I have to do is feed the animals and bring in firewood.

My hardest time is fall. I'm bringing in the garden, blanching and freezing the food, picking apples and saucing them to freeze. I have to help with butchering (I can't kill them, just clean them), stack the firewood, clean up the yard, till the garden, winterize the house and barn, well, you get it.

I don't work full time though, about 15 hours a week. And the kids help too.
