Gu-gu-gu-gu-gu!
Because that's how the little girl in Daisy Comes Home, by Jan Brett calls her hens. Our first hen was named Daisy.
A couple weeks ago I had a bad case of laryngitis and was afraid I wouldn't be able to get them to go into their run. Getting them in early is really important this time of year because I'm busy putting the kids to bed at dusk. Fortunately, they saw me coming in with the treats and happily went in in spite of my croaky voice.

I do the "chook-chook" or "chick-chick" too. But they also are really good to come when I snap my fingers. This is especially useful for pointing out bugs. If I snap then tap on something, they'll look at that spot. Used that one yesterday to interest them in some sugar ants around my garden.

I only wish my dogs would "come" as good as the hens. sigh.

I yell girls and they come runing. My son has his keys on his belt and when he walks outside and they here his keys jingling they come running. ( he always has a treat for them so when they here his keys they think he has there treats.)

I have a serama cockrel who loves car rides so when you talked about jingling keys it reminds me of peanut. When i have my keys in my hands and he hears them he comes running. He just LOVES car rides,it has nothing to do with the donut we go get when we go

By name.

Works every time, unless the one I call is very very busy, e.g. having stumbled upon a wormy patch of ground and is joyfully engaged in slurping down the unlucky ones.
