how do you tell the difference between a dominique and a barred rock

Thanks for posting this and thanks Cyn for the info page.

I bought mine at a feed store as a "barred rock" but it has the rose comb. Apparently it's a mixed because it has all the characteristics of a barred rock except for the comb.

Regardless he's handsome and a keeper.

You will find those mixed quite often since people dont see the difference and end up crossbreeding them.

Thanks SO much for that link. As I am planning on having show stock in BRs but also have interest in the Doms I *really* needed that info. I kept thinking 'rose comb' meant 'rose colored glasses' not rose as in 'risen bread.' Now...I know the. I was like what the heck...they both only have ONE comb...why does it say single comb vs rose comb...they are both UNO & RED!

i have what i think is a barred rock. i actually do think she's the prettiest. she's pretty mellow, actually. not bossy. when i first got them, her tummy had been pecked all to heck from being in a pen, though a very very nice pen, with two others who beat up on her. she has healed nicely here and they don't seem to pick on her with room to run around in. i was thinking if i were to choose to get more specificialy one day (as opposed to my motto, if it's free, it's for me) then i might get some of those. really pretty.
