How 'extra' do I have to be?

Good Evening Flock!
I'm extremely new to chickens. Last night I picked up 10 Rhode Island Red chicks and brought them safely home. They are such fun lil creatures!
I have to ask THE question! Did you get the chicks before or after the coop/run? :pop

Welcome to the funny farm! :jumpy

That’s true as well! BYC still an okay place to learn ?

It's a very good place to learn. You will also find out that there are multiple ways to raise chickens. Ask a question and you might get 5 different answers, so you will have to decide which way will work better for you. You may also find out your choice doesn't work well and you have to make changes.

OK, with that out of the way. How are you heating the brooder? If it's by a heat lamp, make sure it is secured a couple different ways, so it doesn't fall into the brooder and start a fire.

I do like how there are no 'right or wrong' answers. It will just be a learning curve to figure out what works best for me and my chicks. I am using a heat lamp in the brooder, good tip of securing the lamp multiple ways. I over looked that.

Also make sure you have a cool section and a warm section in your brooder.

Do you have children? Remember how you sterilized everything for the first baby, then by the third, you are licking the dirt off a pacifier and popping it back in the baby’s mouth? Chickens are kinda like the latter. :gig
