How far do you live from Walmart?

about 8 miles... I too hate that walmart has put so many smaller chains out of business I remember when they put the first wal-mart in Liberal Kansas that within 6 months Alco and Ben Franklin were both out of business the Gibson's there is still in business I think but it is mostly due to people refusing to shop at walmart... however $$$ I shop at wal mart my sil that lives with us works there so I can send a list with her I had to take her shopping a couple of times to teach her about the way I shop (cheap) and she gets a 10% discount so I save even a little more....BUT I HATE the store and even the managers know it I am one of those that if I have a problem they will hear about it happened last time I was in a different walmart I waited 15 minutes and 3 pages for help and then went to the front of the store with my buggy full asked for a manager went there explaining about crappy customer service blah blah blah and then handed him my cart still full and left the store loudly....I hate bad service... the small town walmart where sil has pretty decent customer service for a walmart

About 35 miles, across the state line in New Hampshire is the nearest Wal-mart. Vermont doesn't take kindly to Wal-mart. I believe there are only 4 in the state, not sure if any are superstores since state law prohibits stores over a certain size. The state actually has been listed as an endangered site by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, due to the pressure of bix-box stores, predominately Wal-mart, trying to beat down our doors! Whenever Wal-mart developers enter state lines, it's like an enemy invasion. I love Vermont!

About 20 miles to the one north of us and 26 or so to the one southeast of us. I like the one to the north and shop there frequently without quilt due to the fact that there isn't any mom and pop in either town. There is a mom and pop store in the little town close by but, neither expect someone to due the volume of shopping I do, so no quilt. They are both super Walmarts so it's convient when shopping with a little one.

About 20mi to the nearest one.. and I only shop there if I HAVE TO. I hate that place. Seriously, my mind goes blank as soon as I walk in. It's a super one, too, so I have to crisscross the entire store if I want, say, petfood AND trashbags. It is set up as an impulse buyer's paradise, too.. which means I go in there planning to spend $5 and end up spending $60 (not their fault, but just one more reason I hate going there)

Plus.. I feel like a lot of their 'info' commercials about all the good they are doing in the community are just a way of patting themselves on the back. It irritates me. Lots of places around here do community service, and you don't ever hear about it unless you go LOOK.

I try to frequent mom and pops as much as is economically feasible, and always go to K-mart before I head to Wally World (don't want to ONLY have Walmart in town!!). Up until 5 years ago there was almost NO big box stores around here.. now we have everything from xmas tree shop to Lowe's.. and the Target should be opening anytime.

Not far enough!!! I DO NOT shop there, I hate that place.

I totally agree!

Why I hate Walmart:
-builds huge, sprawling stores that waste too much land;
(why can't they build 2-3 stories, maybe a parking garage?)
-their empty outgrown buildings stay empty
(land waste!)
-force the suppliers of products to keep prices at a certain
price;
-makes the suppliers wait a long time before getting paid;
-doesn't sell enough American-made products;
(because of reason #3 & #4)
-small, family-owned stores that have been in the community
a long time are driven out of business;
-encourages overspending by lower-income families

The same things apply to Sam's Clubs. Why should a person PAY a fee to shop at a store? If you check the unit price of an item sold at Sam's and compare it to the unit price sold by another store, how much did you really save? Don't forget to add the prorated member's fee to the price. Bulk packaging is so misleading.

Amen and amen. I too hate going into Walmart, but can't afford to shop anywhere else. EVERYTHING they sell (well almost comes from China, the people that are poisoning our children) Weatherford does have a Gibson's still. It is about 20 miles to Walmart from here. I wish someone would come up with some "superstore" that sold American for Americans in America, what a concept, huh?

3 near me but all are 30 minutes away. I avoid them like the plague. ( went maybe 3 times last year because I had no other choice ). Personally I hate Walmart, full of crap from China and I hate how they come in and take over. About 10 years ago they built one in my hubby's small home town in central Kentucky. I can't tell you how many Mom and Pop places had to close down. To this day the Main Street looks barren with empty stores that were once Mom and Pop places that nobody can keep in business having to compete with Walmart.

I probably have 3 or 4 Walmarts within 5 miles, but I live in the suburbs. I try not to shop at there. I only go if I have several non related items to buy like toothpaste, air filters, potting soil, shampoo and dish clothes. I don't shop at Wally world because I don't like their business practices; I think they support sweat shop labor, they are anti-union, they support poorly managed aquaculture, their labor practices are questionable, they keep their cashier so minimally trained that they seem like idiots and lots of other reasons. I would rather spend my money in a way that supports my beliefs, and I have that luxury here in the 'burbs. I understand that not everyone can or wants to do that.
