How I fell for a chicken

Quote:
Agreed. They give me such joy and it has helped me overcome ALOT of bad. Rescuing chickens saved my life.

They are the best therapy. I have a disability and when I am too sick to work and feel down, I just sit with them for half an hour and they reframe everything for me. Life isn't just about climbing the greasy pole, it's also about enjoying the sun, growing tomatoes, and laughing at the antics of my chickens. I'm so lucky to have them!

I had no idea either! Chickens are so endearing and funny. And I love being with chicken people

I work long hours and do not have a lot of time through the week to spend sitting and watching my ladies and gents. But in my defense I come home, set my stuff down, kiss DW, and head outside to see them. I will spend what daylight I have left with them until they are ready to bed down and then I leave them to their privacy. I check for the first egg every day. How and when did I get to be chicken crazy like the rest of y'all? I don't know but I am there and lovin' it.

Yep you would have never known it. I have two girls that just melt your heart. My Aubrey Hepburn is a small speckled sussex who just runs to me and follows me all over and even wants to go places with me, and then there is my silkie dior, she is crazy but has the most personality of any animal i personally know of. My sister never got why i was so inlove with chicken then she moved back home and meet dior and she fell in love with her, she says she is her favorite chicken by far.

Aren't chickens amazing?! I had NO idea I could totally fall in love with a chicken; it was wonderful experience. Any time I was upset or just needed an emotional boost I would go get "chicken hugs" from my sweetheart Barred Rock Speckles. Just watching her run across the grass or scratch the mulch out of the flowerbed was SO much fun. My husband loved her just as much as I did. It is great to read about others who have such special relationships with their dear chicky-pets.

I love this post, I think it might be my all time favorite discussion thread! I just returned home to my family (including the feathered members) after being at a conference for 3 days with several coworkers who made fun of me when I spent most of my spare time in BYC. If I couldn't be with my birds at least I could see and hear about everyone else's! Not sure about the cheap part but the therapy part is DEFINATELY true!
