How is your flock today?

Just an update on my 2 chick's that just hatched:

I see that the 1st chick (Aloha) that hatched has a foot fetish. While the NN Aloha is trying to eat, the Aloha keeps trying to get it's feet.
Congrats. :) How long after lock down should it normally take for them all to hatch? Then do you keep them all in the incubator until they are all done hatching or do you pull them out as soon as they are all dried off?

It's actually great to keep in mind, from what I hear it's really not an uncommon thing. Yep! I do trim their hooves. Learned when I was I think ten actually lol. Done it since. Also an update, not sure if I mentioned but Ruby's eye is clearing up and although she had a slight back step yesterday and had to tube feed, she's back to eating herself today and actually seems like she's eating better than before.
Glad to hear Ruby is doing much better, she is so lucky to have you caring for her. :)

O-wow since ten that is awesome, maybe not if you have a lot of hooves to trim. LOL I am just learning and the link below is the pictures and information I go by. Betty, Scooters mom has really bad hoof issues because the original owners must not have cared for them. So now I been trying to get them back into shape little by little.

She is just now starting to clam down to where we can work with her, but her hooves are so hard to trim and file on. I have a good brand name of shear and file, but I think a small grinder with a sanding disk would be so much nicer and quicker. Just not sure how she would react to the noise?

Do you have any hoof trimming secrets or tips?

Me too. Not to get too personal but I've had some significant stuff going on personally so it's been really great to be able to do what I love most in life which is helping animals you know? :) thanks for listening and supporting
Sorry to hear that. I so agree animals can be a great source of therapy. I wish you the best and hope all works out for you sooner over later. :)

I lost one of the Jubilee Orpingtons the first night. But since then, the remaining three have been bouncing around! Here are some pictures.

The yellow one is the Orp, named Widget. The darker of the greys (Blue Australorps) is Stormy, and the lighter of the greys is May.

There is a story behind May's name.

BYC member Azygous posted a long thread about one of her Blue Australorp pullets going lame. There was a lot of very informative discussion about what might be the issue, treatment, concerns, etc. This thread is 40some pages, and the conversation was several months long. She got mostly better, had some really good days, then relapsed and passed. She was a beautiful girl named May.

My May is a way of honoring her struggles, her memory, and what she offered all of us: information about helping our feathered friends.
