How is your flock today?

@BlueBaby , I have a new situation with my incubator project! Since we just got dumped on with rain for the past three days and the humidity outside sky rocketed with the heat, it also put my humidity number up on the incubator.

Now I went from 40-45 during the day to 45-50. So I pull the two plastic covers off and fan it back down to 43 and put the covers on. My temp now is varying between 98.6 - 99.5 I know the temp is still in the safe zone, but what about my humidity? I am really worried about the correct air-cell size for Lock down. I know the eggs have to lose a certain amount of weight for hatching and the air-cell space, I am guessing is the reason why?

Yes, try your best to keep thing's right, even if you have to put something around the side of the lid to help keep any extra humidity out. Until the lock-down you should only have one of those red plug's in the top of the lid. You add the second one when you start your lockdown.

I understand the extra humidity for after lock down, but what does a higher humidity do before lock down? I am guessing extra moister in the egg and a smaller air-cell?

But when I candled the few eggs and if I done it correctly? I have a very large air-cell at my 8 day of candling. I am convinced the eggs are fertile and doing their thing, I am just not so sure I have the correct air-cell size going at this time of incubation?

I think that it's supposed to help soften the shell so that they can get out easier? Too much water though, can make the gooey and sticky when they hatch. You also don't want them to shrink wrap.

Maybe I missed it, what attacked your poor girl? :( Did you find your other two girls?
Pretty sure a fox. I.. sort of found one. One of my dogs dragged in a couple of feet the next day I think it was. I know it was one of theirs too.

Your not a bad chicken owner, A bad chicken owner would have done nothing! I am just like you and try to do my best when one of our girls is ill. I can't justify a $200.00 plus dollar Vet bill for a $5.00 chicken. It would be another story if she laid golden eggs.

Thank you so much. I guess you're right. And definitely.

edit to say by the way Ruby's "blood eye" is clearing up!! I don't know if she'll be able to see I can't really tell yet but I think she might, it doesn't look cloudy.

Just curious how did you know your Goat had Poilo?

He just had all the symptoms of it. I really knew when he recovered when giving him the treatment for it. If you're asking what the symptoms were, it was stumbling, falling, then eventually couldn't walk at all, the stargazing, which is actually another term they use for it, and it looked like he was going blind which is another symptom they can have temporary blindness. Keeping neck turned. I think that's all, I can't remember anything else right now.
It's actually not related to like our type of polio at all it's a deficiency. Its full name is polioencephalomalacia.
