Well, since we are on the subject of roos kindof.... have we moved off yet? Lol.
A bit of a mommy gush about Bolt. Gotta be the most handsome roo I have ever seen personally and such a sweet boy.

Your Rooster is very pretty and with a docile temperament all the better. This was Chewy with his girls. It was my understanding his mother was 100% Brahma and his father a barn yard mix Rooster, I am guessing a RR from his looks?

Yeah, I hear those RIR roos can be snotty. I see a few feathers on his legs but not a lot else says Brahma to me though comb is a nice size. Good looking boy, so sorry he was being bad.

My husband, ya know the one who complains about the # of chickens I have?.. that one called me out of the blue and said he bought a chick from the feed store. I said, well, ya gotta turn around and get another one. Lol. So he did ♡ It is the first time having red sex links for me. I have picked them up for others but none have stayed. I really like the chicken but do wonder how the dynamics will go with my docile brahmas. I am certainly going hatch some RSL x Brahma chicks.

I am certainly in no way any kind of a chicken breed identification expert. I can only go from what other people tell me and or what I may read on the net about the different breeds. It's my understanding a Rooster can turn out either way when their hormones kick in, so it's a 50/50 gamble.

I have never ordered chicks before from a hatchery and part of my reasoning is to make sure I receive a true and correct pure breed, over buying local or private and not knowing for sure if I am getting a mix breed of some kind?

I don't know how much you know about the Black Australorp breed, but I am very impressed with everything I have read about them. They seem to be a docile hardy duel purpose breed for our area and a great egg layer also. My game plan is to work with only one breed and stick with just them and incubate as we need to replenish our flock as time goes on.

You will definitely have to keep us posted with your hatch, sounds interesting, anytime soon?

I really like my Black Australorps.

I wanted to add 3 chicks this last spring, and wanted Blue Australorps because I was ga-ga in love with the color. I went with a small, not-too-far-away breeder, so that I could go pick them up. Her hatch ended up being only 2, so I got a third chick, a Jubilee Orpington. My roo is a buff Orp, and the Jubilee was the only other pullet day old chick she had, so I was ok with that. Even though Jubilees are $$.

Well... let's just say I won't be going back to that breeder. The Blue Australorps are actually Blue Jersey Giants. I never noticed that the bottoms of their feet were yellow until they were about 4 months old!

Yes, they are lovely, and they've started laying. But they sure eat a lot.

My idea was to replenish my flock, eventually, and mutts would be ok. A buffxJubilee orp mix might be very pretty, and buff over black or blue might be as well.

I know next to nothing about Australops- except they have a good solid fan base for good reasons. I look forward to hearing your take on them. Especially with your heat. AZ right?
We have heat with high humidity. Some reason, the brams do as good as my bantam mixs did. But they leave their eggs where they are supposed to... in the nest boxes unless they have a forest to play in.

My 2 RSLs are only 1.5 months old. So, 4-5 months. Maybe I will be ready to incubate by then... by then I may have forgotten about the roo overloads I have when hatching.

Sorry to hear about your breeder @Sally PB .that pretty much bites.
I also have a buy back and really go out of my way to try and keep folks happy but I'm sure some get sad at me.
I'm not so my a breeder as a hatcher because we are so limited here. Just trying to help.out cuz it is def a no win side job. I'm hoping for good a good karma payoff.

Totally ok to ask. Barred rock rooster with barred rock and speckled sussex hens. Offspring from said. I really do like having chickens.
