How is your flock today?

It is not an easy thing to come by a fantastic roo. I went through about... 10 b4 I got to my Spider. Not letting him go for nothin', he is fabulous.

You'll have to take pictures of them to show us. How's your flock doing?
Yes most definably, it will be interesting to see if we end up with twins or not this time around? Momma Betty is much bigger then last time and seems to be eating more. LOL :)

Our flock's are doing fine, I believe I had mentioned to you awhile back that I had gave our neighbor seven of our 15 week old pullets for his young daughter to enjoy. :love

The strangest thing though and maybe you have the answer? Those seven pullets at first did not want to come out of their new coop into the run during the day. I know its a new environment for them and thought maybe they were scared, so I took over one of our young cockerels and put him in there also.

I know a rooster isn't a must have in a flock of all hens unless a person wants baby chicks at some point. I figured since the pullets were older and had grew up with cockerels around them, that maybe they didn't feel safe in their new home without one around? I am only guessing that may have been the problem because now everything seems to be working out. Your thoughts on this?

I also have our eight remaining cockerels in a separate pen doing their own thing until it's time for freezer camp. LOL I am very surprised how well they all have been getting along together. They are actually kind of funny to watch, I am guessing they must have their pecking order figured out because every now and then, two of them will square off for a few seconds and its over. I am hoping that is the extent of their aggressiveness towards each other, so far so good. :fl

Our main flock is doing well, the egg production has slowed down a bit with the shorter daylight hours, but that's to be expected. Our weather seems to be holding, no super chilly nights yet to where I have had to start draining the water hoses. If the long term weather forecast turns out to be true, we should have a very mild winter with above normal temps and little moister compared to last winter.

Hi gang. My apologies, I lost this thread and was not getting notifications either so drifted off. Missed it.
I see most all survived the summer. I went up the mountain for most of mine and enjoyed- we all enjoyed as I brought my chooks with me.
Beautiful chicks @bluebabyand fabulous roo and hen @River campbell . So nice to see such beauty. Oh! Congrats on the kids @416bigbore wonderful!
Hello, glad to have you back. :ya :) No need to Apologies as @BlueBaby pointed out this thread has been inactive for awhile. I have been so busy with other projects and there seems to never be enough hours in the day to get everything done, so my To-do list keeps getting longer. :barnie

Sounds like your vacation to the mountains was amazing, your pics of the mountains are very beautiful, Thanks for sharing. :)

No new babies yet and if I done the math correctly, momma Betty should have them at the end of December. That is the five month date from when she was in standing heat last.

I spent, I believe a month off of byc as I did not want to sign in on my phone. Am I telling my age now? The mountain was fabulous and I was sad to come down but my girls quit laying due to low light and molting. They are just kicking back in now. Oh, and rats found us. Big tropical brown rats. So think that must have freaked the old gals out. Before that they spent most of their time laying in the forest. So everyday was an Easter egg hunt through thick tropical dead fall. I spent my time walking and trapping and befriending feral cats and raising meal worms.View attachment 2901666View attachment 2901669View attachment 2901670I'm def counting the minutes till I get back up. Maybe summers aren't so bad after all lol 🙄
Your vacation to the mountains sounds very amazing. Out of curiosity, what was your lodging like, meaning do you have a travel trailer to stay in or maybe stay at a resort of some type?

Yeah hes a great boy, always warns of predators, hangs out with our girls who the flock does not like, Lets me pick him up and pat, hes really an amazing rooster!
Hello and welcome to our small group. :) Your Edward and hens are very beautiful, thanks for sharing.
