What do you mean by the “long male feather”?

I don’t know how to spell it. It is called the sickle feather, you know the long skinny feather ontop of a roosters tail. From the angles of the pictures I can’t tell if the EE has it or not.

Yes those pictures are better. Probably female. Just keep an eye on that comb.

Her comb has been red like that for a while. I was initially worried, but someone said she looks like a Wyandotte mix and they get color to their combs early. IDK. Here are some pics from above if you want to see feather growth better.

It probably is a she. Those feathers are really pointed but that is just an EE trait. If you dont mind me asking, what happened to the lavender orpingtons tail feathers?

I think it’s just a shredder gene thing. I’ve been told lavender chickens of any breed can get messed up feathers.

What do you think about the neck feathers on the red Orpington? They’re looking a bit pointy to me, but comb seems fine

They look normal. I cant quite tell, but if they are glossy and grow longer I would keep an eye on it. But right now they look like female’s.

Just an update, all are hens. The Easter egger laid her first GREEN egg yesterday. It’s a moss/olive color. No eggs from the others so far.

*edit: the remaining 4 are all hens

Yeah that is an EE. And will probably lay green eggs. I have an EE SLW mix myself. They are good layers.

She did lay a green egg! I actually wonder if she’s an olive egger as that’s basically the color of the egg she laid.
