How long after Pipping do eggs hatch?!!! Day 21 Broody Hen

Yes, I think it depends. I saw another site on Google said "12-14" hours. I have 5 that started pipping this morning (of a dozen on lockdown in my incubator) and they have made a little progress but not much in the last 5-6 hours. I can hear at least one of them peeping inside.

Last time we had a broody hen we had 5 eggs under her. I just let her do her thing and I don't know when the pipping started. However, two hatched by a Saturday morning and a third later that night. The other two hatched on Easter Sunday...... I only picked her up to look under her 2-3 times during that time period, just trying to trust that SHE knew what she was doing.

PS This is Buffy and her five chicks in my picture. When I did pick her up I did my best to remove the empty egg shells so it would be less 'busy' under her and around the new hatchlings.

Ok that actually helps me a lot. I’m just gonna have to trust my broody hen. Do you know what days they hatched on? Like was it Day 21 and Day 22? I’ll keep you guys updated once they hatch!

Should I be worried if I don’t hear peeping from them. I put one to my ear and heard tapping but no peeping.

Don't panic about the sounds they do or don't make in the egg. Just let her do her thing and what hatches hatches. I had one that hatched almost 2 full days later that the other 4 and I never even knew it was alive. Just figured she would toss it if she didn't think it was worth it. She's done it before.

Ok that's relieving. I'm just a first timer and I'm super anxious for baby chicks and worried if they are ok.

Ok since all 6 eggs are pipped and working they're way out of the eggs, I will check on Broody Hen and her eggs later and check if they've progressed or if we have any chicks! And I will be sure to update everyone once I do so! Thanks again for y'alls help I appreciate it. I'll be sure to post pictures once they hatch too!

I know, it's like being a new mother right? I'd affirm just leave the eggs with her and let her do her thing. Don't worry about peeping etc. Also, chicks inside the eggs are just like chicks outside the eggs - they fall to sleep very quickly! I think they will pip and work on the shell from time to time and then fall right asleep to wake up again later.......

I wouldn't lift up the eggs to look at them or candle them, consider it like 'lockdown' with your broody hen. After hatching the chicks will stay relatively under her and even under her wings. She will know what to do.

Buffy's first three hatched on day 20 and the other two were day 21, which again with serendipity, was Easter Sunday!

So this is my first Broody hen and this is her first clutch. Last night before I went to bed the eggs were rocking. And this morning (Day 21) I checked on the eggs and a few were pipped. My Question is, How long after they are externally pipped will they hatch?
Well congratulations you must be very exited... it’s all different some will take 20 minutes some will take a day or longer. I always check on mine sometimes they stuck in make sure humidity is right. Sometimes not very often they need some extra help. Be carful they are delicate little things and don’t forget to upload some photos so we can share your joy! Good luck my dear!
