Yes, I think it depends. I saw another site on Google said "12-14" hours. I have 5 that started pipping this morning (of a dozen on lockdown in my incubator) and they have made a little progress but not much in the last 5-6 hours. I can hear at least one of them peeping inside.
Last time we had a broody hen we had 5 eggs under her. I just let her do her thing and I don't know when the pipping started. However, two hatched by a Saturday morning and a third later that night. The other two hatched on Easter Sunday...... I only picked her up to look under her 2-3 times during that time period, just trying to trust that SHE knew what she was doing.
