Well, to say that I am in love with my new ducklings would be an understatement. I'm finding everything about them extremely gratifying, even cleaning up all their poop. However, there is something about it that feels like an addiction. When I made my initial orders, I bought all females, I mean no way was I gonna deal with a drake, and more babies. Then I started looking at all the breeds. I mean really looking at them, and the silkies, wow, now that's a beautiful duck. Now I want a pair!

Then I started wondering what could I get from a silky/runner mix. How interesting it would be to watch that play out. It makes me want to order a few adults now from Holderread so I can have them for the next breeding season.

But.... but maybe I'm just honeymooning.

When does one know when the honeymoon is over and you just love ducks?

I think mostly I'm just rambling, and I probably know already know the answer, but I'd like to hear what you others have experienced.

Honestly, I've had ducks (and goslings, now, too - those will be next for you

) since last fall and I am totally loving these silly things.

I have some call ducks, and some swedish ducks, and I just got four rouen babies at the auction (they are in the house still). Oh, and my geese are a pair of pilgrims and a buff.

The funniest ones are the gray calls (four of those) they love the hose and every time I go near it they come running and stand with their heads up and chests out waiting for me to turn it on them

The geese have recently caught onto this game, also, and they come flapping their wings and disturbing everyone else in their excitement.

They like their pool - but the hose is way more fun for them, I think.

eta - I began with one pair - after figuring I didn't even want to mess with ducks - most I have had at one time is 26 - I am down to 20 currently, been trying to thin the herd err...flock... um.... gaggle?

I know these feelings...

I had a minimum order of 10 thinking "Oh no problem...I will keep a trio of each and butcher the extra drakes at least" I received 11. 6 drakes and 5 ducks.

Well, I am instead trying to organize duck house space for a trio of GWH, a trio of Anconas, a pair of Anconas and a trio of bachelor GWH. Butchering them is not even a question.

So sign me up for treatment of this addiction if you find therapy that works.
