how long from pipping to hatching?

Oh, bummer. I think hatching chicks is incredibly stressful. We hatched a lot this spring and I had many sleepless nights. The quick hatchers sure aren't the problem -- it's always the stragglers and strugglers. I hope things go better for you next time.

Well it was having trouble breathing and struggling per my husband. ..as I was driving home from work...an hr drive. Said leave it alone...but they were getting worried and panicked. So DH pulled apart some pieces and helped him out... last thing I said was not to touch it. Now its laying there moving its legs like its trying to get up but its body can't. It looks like a plucked bird all pink with an occasional fluffy strand. :'(

this has happened to me, unfortunately after 24 hours the poor little thing passed away.

Interesting. I just did my first hatch and by 4 p.m. of day 17, all chicks were hatched. There was one left who was pipped but stuck. I figured "what-the-hey..." so I popped him out with an assist and he's still doing great. The other five eggs were dead.

I guess I was lucky that they all hatched so quickly. I had one pop out at 9:00 a.m. and by 9:30 there were already 20

and all but five of the eventual 48 hatchees were out by lunch.

Since it couldn't get out, where it would have died anyway, I highly doubt it.

Yeah that. I don't mess with eggs until there a whole bunch of peeping dry chicks in the incubator. At that point I'll assist but I don't count on the assisted chicks living. Some do, some don't.
