Grew up in the '40's and'50's on a farm raising chickens, cows, pigs and horses. Left the farm for a few years to work, came back in '94 and got chickens, turkeys, guienes again. Got sick and had to sell them but we started raising them again in march of last year. Now we have chickens, ducks and gesses. I love them all dearly but am overrun with eggs.

Started off by chicken sitting for my sisters nine chickens and she never got them back. Now I'm hatching my own and building my flock. Racing the cold weather to get a bigger coop built.

I had Easter chicks as pets since I was 5 and am now 60. However I did not count that time as I was not responsible for them. My present flock started spring 2 yrs ago and I have all of the original 4 plus 9 more.

I'm a nb. Picked up my first 4 in Jan 2011. They were 5 months old. I now have 10. Guess you could say I'm addicted. Plan on more in the spring.

Got my first birds from Mt. Healthy Hatchery - 20 pullets and 5 cockerels of the Buff Brahma variety - on March 13, 2011. 2 months later, we got 10 turkey poults and 3 pearl french guineas. Once the turkeys went to be processed (we will see them again Thanksgiving

) I felt a little lonely (even though I still have 16 pullets and one roo - sold the others from the original 25 to friends!). So my daughter and I went to Crossroads this weekend and came home with 5 new friends - a Partridge Brahma trio and a pair of Mille Fleurs.

I am officially a chicken convert! Love my birds!

It's been close to two years. I love my chickens!!! Started for the eggs, now we are getting ready to try raising them for meat for our family.

My oldest girls were 6 years old this spring and one of them passed away 2 days ago. She was hatched with a bum leg, hobbled around her entire life and never laid an egg. Many would have culled her as a chick but Wounded Wanda lived a full and happy life at our home. We miss you old girl.

I started raising chicks to amuse my grandson. NOW they have taken over my life. I love my girls.
Every morning when I go out as soon as they hear my voice they come running to see me (I tell myself it has nothing to do with the treats I feed them)
I have a serious case of Chick adoration.
4 Lavender Orpingtons I got as 3 days olds. They lived in my kitchen under a lamp then slowly moved outside with the rest. I still don't know the sexes but am hoping for hens as we are not allowed roos in Vancouver. It will be horrible to separate them. They have been handled since birth and are so friendly and cuddly. Yes, I know, I sound like a chicken kook but that is what happens when you live with chickens!
