How long to wait after separating chickens?

My different breeds of chickens were running together but I now have them paired up. How long do I have to wait to make sure my chicks will be purebreds?

After 2 weeks a good percentage will start to be pure. After 3 it should be close to 100% by the roo you want. I always wait 4 weeks to be completely sure.

I had found on another site that 3 weeks was the length of time sperm could live in the hen's body. But on another thread on BYC it said a hen still had fertile eggs 4 weeks after the rooster was gone.

I just want to be sure any hatchings are positively from the right rooster.

I was planning on waiting a month but now I wonder if I should wait even longer.

I'm sure glad people don't work this way. Could you imagine our population if it was?

I would wait at least 4 week, I guess longer if it makes you feel better but 4 weeks should be good !!!

before you eat them just check and see if they are fertile,then you will know for sure
