Hmm..
Well, so far my experience is anything you hatch or get as day olds will be like that. My girls are worse than dogs! If they are free ranging and see me outside, they all come running, and then follow me around.
My kids tried to have a picnic this fall and had one chicken begging for their pizza. LOL! Poor kids!
Anyway, the chicks I got at 3wks have never really liked me, and I've TRIED. But they just don't care.
A lot depends really on what you want out of them. My RIRs are nice, sweet girls and lay terrific eggs. My BRs are a mixed bunch, all sweet, one slightly aggressive, one friendly-to-the-point-of-driving-me-crazy (tried to perch on my 3yos shoulder.. didn't go so well).
My bantam cochin cockeral is so sweet, I want another! My d'Anvers are my fav by far, and my little hen Jane acts like a kitty. Loves to be petted, follows me around, comes if I call her. Overall a terrific girl. (she's also a house chicken.. LOL!)
Good luck.. we wanted to start with 2 (then 3 in case of loss) originally, too. Right now I have.. um.. 17 grown or nearly grown, 16 eggs in the bator.. and another six sent in the mail today..
Chickens rock.. wait 'til you get them. And I agree with silkiechicken, the 17 I have aren't any harder than the 10 ladies I started with.. and all are WAY easier than the dogs or the cats. I go out twice a day for eggs and to open/close. Check the feed then, check water. Once a week I refill feeder, and stir litter or add more. THAT'S IT. It's maybe.. 1/2 hr a week tops (more like 2hrs a week in the summer.. because I like to sit out and watch them LOL!)
