How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

3 Chicken egg's today

I believe the girls are a bit upset with the Coyote hanging around in the morning and the temp's were only around 107 F at 10 AM so I think most of my egg's are under the shed and there is only 18 inches of crawl space so I will have to wait for the kid's to come over to visit before an inspection can be dune ...

Shucks and darn....hubs just finished cleaning the ductwork so he could <gulp> turn on the furnace! In the 40s and looks like the mountains are getting some snow. I'll know more tomorrow when (if?) the sun come out and I can see them.

and lost two hens cause of hawks..
sorry to hear that. I'm always worried about my girls when they free range. The area that is theirs is kind of on the side of my backyard so when I go out the door I can't always see them all right away and it makes me nervous until I turn the corner and see all 5. Sometimes they all come running over as soon as they hear the door open so that makes it nice.

6 from 10 or 11 hens. 1 had a hole in it and was as empty as could be. It was laid in the pullet yard. I guess someone enjoyed it.
Lost 2 more chickens this morning. They were both pullets that have been choosing to sleep out side of the coop. I think a cat killed them. When I took the puppy outside at 5:50AM, I heard something that sounded like it was going over the chicken yard fence. I went back out a little later when it was light enough to see. The puppy & I walked the perimeter of the chicken yard & didn't see anything, but she was real interested in the scents around the fence! Then I noticed a chicken laying in the yard of the chicken area. She didn't look like she was sleeping. I went to investigate and sure enough she was dead. She was stiff and she had a broken wing. I took her inside. About 1 1/2 or 2 hours later, I was back in the chicken yard to get some eggs for breakfast and found a second pullet dead over by the corner of the house and the fence. This one had part of her neck exposed. When I took her inside and examined her further she had what looked like claw marks/slashes on the sides of her back. My neighbor thinks maybe it was a fox.
Needless to say, none of the chickens will get to stay outside at night anymore. I'll have to go out and get them after they go to roost and move them into the coop with the rest of the flock.
Oh, I almost forgot. Before all of that happened, I found a 5 foot black snake in the chicken barn last night when I went to lock up for the night! It was draped 1/2 in & 1/2 out of the lowest nest box! 13 of the chickens, (8 hens, 4 pullets & 1 rooster) were all peacefully perched on their roosts above & on both sides of the snake!
I think "everybody" was out to get my girls yesterday! We are off to find a live trap & maybe a motion sensor night view camera to add to the chicken yard.
On the positive side, I have 7 eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow late afternoon.
