The heat has finally got to them ......

8 eggs from 10 hens. I really think that I have more than 2 pullets laying now, however I can't be sure. I'll know for sure when I get more than 2 eggs in 1 day from that coop.
So far we have caught 1 skunk & 1 raccoon and have seen a possum, another raccoon and another skunk on the trail cam inside the chicken yard. I am not sure if they are going under the fence, over the fence or climbing the small trees near the fence. I didn't quite realize that the chicken yard is so busy at night. I'm kind of surprised I haven't lost chickens before this!!

Temp's were 111 F at 6 PM this evening ya it was a cooker here today and the geese , chickens, ducks & guinea were under the out buildings most of the day .......

This is strange! We have 5 hens, and for most of the summer, we have been getting 4 eggs a day. That is, if you don't count the period of time that we had a broody Australorp, whick knocked down production to 3 most days. This past week, we've gotten 5 eggs three out of the last 5 days, and on two of the days, there was a big double yolker. I had just read that as the days get shorter and cooler, egg production slows, but not around here!

Sounds like you are doing great getting them amount of egg's ....

This morning I found out why I was low on my egg count this last month as I had one of my girls produce 7 fluffy chicks and as soon as I can get them out long enough to take a picture of them I will do so ........

Now I have a lot of chicks in the yard as I was hatching all winter and ended a couple of weeks ago and after all the one's I have sold there are still over 60 running round underfoot .....

2/4 eggs today (4 eggs in 4 days from my new layer.....wow! And this is my absolute sweetest girl hands down! ).

Can't wait for my other 3 pullets to start laying.

2nd day this week! WOOHOO!!!!!

12 out of 14, todays color combo...7 white/5brown...that means In the last week all 7 of my RSL's and all 7 of my leghorns have produced an egg!!! Just not on the same day! But we're getting there! They seem to be narrowing the laying window down to between 8am and 5pm. We usually let them out to free range around 8am and we usually find 1 hen on the nest one morning it was a red, the next was a white. Then we check in the evening when my daughter gets home from after school activities and that's when we find the rest! This is getting fun!

1/5.... I have 4 squatters but only 1 layer and the last girl is lagging- her comb and wattles aren't even close. Come on girls your rent is past due!
