How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 5 eggs so far. They usually give me 7 eggs a day but it's getting so cold they must not want to squat. Little joke.

...if it's real cold will you turn on a heat light at night? It's cold here tonight and my chickens haven't been in a real cold time yet either. They are cold hardy birds but I still worry about it. I have a heat lamp in their coop and will turn it on if it gets to cold. What about you? I'm just trying to get other peoples opinions. Thanks

My chickens survived the coldest winter in 100 years here last year. That Polar Vortex was brutal! I kept the girls inside, but did not have a heater. It seemed cruel, and some weeks when the temp was in the single digits (Fahrenheit) I kept a tungsten light on 24/7 for the small amount of heat the light gives off, yet all I read said that chickens do OK in the cold (if they're cold hardy). Mine did. I had silkies, Japanese bantams, red sex-links, and Plymouth Rocks. I suppose you can heat, as long as you don't let the chickens out at all. The sudden temperature difference between a heated inside and a frigid outside can cause the chickens to get sick.

10/13 all 6 leghorns paid rent! 4 out of 7 red comets paid rent but I give them some grace because they're still moulting! And with the wind today it looked like it was snowing red snow in the coop! Red feathers everywhere!

7/10. Worst day yet. Only 1 out of 4 Leghorns laid an egg today. 6/6 for the Golden Comets. Plus, their eggs are much bigger. They are winning the egg wars in my henhouse right now!!

7 today all brown >here i was worried about getting too many white eggs.
