How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

second day of 10/11 missing a brown egg 2days in a row, rollcall at night missing a red comet 2 nights in a row.....hmmm....broody hen hoarding eggs somewhere in the yard! Just can't find her hiding spot! The jokes on her, we don't have a roo! Those eggs will eventually get stinky and then maybe I'll find her hiding spot! Silly girl!!!!

22.2 weeks old a d still waiting. Sigh. I do love watching them flirt with the rooster across the yard, still in quarantine 3 more weeks. Boy have the girls been piggies and more active the past week!

Is that little hardware hen a female light brown leghorn?

I usually don't let eggs go to anyone that are beyond 10 days or less. I never wash the eggs I bring in, but I do refrigerate them right away. Everyone who gets eggs from me is told to be sure to wash them before using them. I have a little handout that goes to "new eggs" in which I explain briefly about the bloom and how important it is, and I come right out and caution them that occasionally they may find a blood or meat spot in an egg. I explain what that is, what they can choose to do with it, (ignore it, remove it, or just not use it) but ask them to let me know - if I'm getting eggs that consistently have such spots I want to know so I can keep an eye on what's happening with the girls.

I don't do anything fancy with the eggs. I do use a plain old pencil to write the date on the egg as it comes into the house. Comes off when the eggs are washed. Older eggs I hard cook and feed back to the chickens, crushed up shells and all. That way I don't accidentally give an older carton out, have someone open it and see a month old date on the eggs! Harder to fix a bad reputation than it is to build a good one.

Second day in a row with 2 blue eggs...one of the EEs has decided to get back into the groove! Gladys never did stop laying, but the other 3 sure did. Now I just have to figure out which one it is. Got 5/10 + Scout today.....2 of which were EEs!

No idea today, or the next three days.
I'm visiting family and friends for Christmas. Brought a few dozen to share.........I hope they appreciate the quality!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Doug

2/3 on December 24 from my barred rocks. One extra large and one medium. I'm pretty sure the big eggs come from my longest time layer. The girls turned 6 months about 2 weeks ago and have been laying for a little more than a month.
