Only 8 today. Lowest count in a very long time. They’ll get their health checks tomorrow. I do know there are several that are molting but had continued to lay. Shorter days of course as well. Everyone is acting fine so I’m not worried yet.
I’m playing with sprouting right now. Did wheat grass which hens loved (easy to sprout). They also like the lentils (also was easy to sprout). They are not so impressed with the cow peas (very easy to sprout). We like them though so that works out ok (taste just like fresh garden peas). The sunflower seeds aren’t sprouting much. They are old so maybe that’s the issue. I tried rye grass - disaster as the seeds are so tiny they come right thru the screening when rinsing and draining. I’ll probably give up on that and just plant the seeds. I want to try beets, broccoli and green peas. I’m also saving the seeds from spaghetti squash and sweet peppers I buy at the store. I did sweet peppers seeds from store bought peppers last year to transplant and a lot germinated so hopefully will have same success this year. Are any of you sprouting or growing fodder for yourself or your chickens?
