Nope I run a Nursery where I produce Evergreen hedging plants, so I need massive amounts of manure. I hatch out chicks and keep them until they reach Point of lay then I sell them. I get a lot of manure and the people who buy my chickens get the chickens at peak value. I need manure and the chickens ability to scratch up leaves/straw/hay/grass clippings to make the massive amounts of compost needed for the nursery.
the meat and eggs were a factor, I could pet birds for poop but I figured I could supplement my hobby with food and get much cheaper compost that way. I also trade eggs to Horse folks for horse manure. Horse people of all large manure producers tend to have the least amount of use for compost so they likely give it away. When I find a place on Craigslist giving away horse manure I always bring them eggs to say thank you.
Did you ever see the movie Old Yeller? Tear jerker western made a zillion years ago. Classic. Old Yeller (dog) was an egg sucker. Common problem on old farms due to dogs needing/wanting the protein fix.
