How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

13 today. New record! Plus four are broody and on eggs and one has four chicks, less than a week old.
Two Welsummer
Two Buttercup
Two EE
Seven bantam, which means that only one of my big girls still isn't laying. Oh! And my latest Welsummer to start laying had speckled eggs! Love it!

Only 8 today. Lowest count in a very long time. They’ll get their health checks tomorrow. I do know there are several that are molting but had continued to lay. Shorter days of course as well. Everyone is acting fine so I’m not worried yet.

I’m playing with sprouting right now. Did wheat grass which hens loved (easy to sprout). They also like the lentils (also was easy to sprout). They are not so impressed with the cow peas (very easy to sprout). We like them though so that works out ok (taste just like fresh garden peas). The sunflower seeds aren’t sprouting much. They are old so maybe that’s the issue. I tried rye grass - disaster as the seeds are so tiny they come right thru the screening when rinsing and draining. I’ll probably give up on that and just plant the seeds. I want to try beets, broccoli and green peas. I’m also saving the seeds from spaghetti squash and sweet peppers I buy at the store. I did sweet peppers seeds from store bought peppers last year to transplant and a lot germinated so hopefully will have same success this year. Are any of you sprouting or growing fodder for yourself or your chickens?

I keep thinking about doing it, but haven't actually tried yet.

I'm not directly planting fodder for my chickens, but I have 3-4 foot tall kale plants in the garden that they will have access to all winter. And all the weeds! Kale will overwinter pretty reliably here unless it gets below 15 or 20F which is possible, even then the tops die back and it leafs out again when it warms up a little. Hoping for a reasonable winter, lol

Another big ZERO yesterday.

One green egg today. Leghorn schmeghorn!:rantWhoever heard of an EE laying circles around a leghorn? :idunno
My EEs lay circles around my Exchequer leghorns.

I tend to sell them before they get a year old
Are you running an egg business? I've gotten chicks in April and June in the past (total of 5 batches). They have always laid well until their first adult moult, getting rid of them before 1 year of age would be missing out on a lot of eggs.

here I have a few that are 5 they had been laying but for a few weeks to molt this has been harder on them I will pull them and sell them if not back in action soon
Who wants to buy a 5 year old hen?

Dogs stealing eggs!

That’s a new one on me.
Apparently it is very common.
