How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

We had five again today! Not bad considering late fall and I have not gotten the light installed on a timer yet. One egg, from we think “Prissy”, is HUGE for such a little girl! No wonder why she squawks so loud. The egg is just about 3” long!

Got 7 out of 8 so far this morning. Seems all my chickens are anxious to lay their eggs in the morning after roosting over 13 hours in the dark!
The length of visible daylight today is only 10 hours, 24 minutes, and will be getting even shorter over the next month.

We are at 9hrs, 38min, we are losing about 2 min each day. I hate winter.

Up side in about a months time daylight hrs will start once again getting longer 😊

I've been getting 5 a day, sometimes 6 from my 8 girls (all pullets who started laying in September, so very young and still hormonal!). The Delaware who started laying first is now on vacation - no more squatting, vent says "closed for business"; she's busy being the Queen's bestie/#2/enforcer.

The 2 Easter Eggers seem to be trading off days; there's usually one green egg in the nest box daily but not two. My Whiting's True Blue is still laying daily, misses one day out of every 8 or 9 lately. The other brown egg girls, hard to tell whose egg is whose except the Barred Rock; her eggs have a golden-yellow tint compared to the others. Judging by squatting/non-squatting/skittish behavior, I think the Black Australorp is about to bail soon. The Buff Orp (flock queen), RIR and Barred Rock are still looking productive and craving affection.

We're just grateful to still have fresh eggs coming! I was able to gift a dozen to my daughter today, who's making the Thanksgiving pies, and we'll have home-grown deviled eggs for appetizers. Good work, dear chickles!

(I suspect this time next year may be a bit slower as they mature.)

We are down to day length of 8hrs 26mins and loosing 3 mins a day. Will be down to 7 hrs 29 on the solstice.

Not checked for whhs this last 2 days. Martha is shedding feathers fast, that makes all of them although the others are mostly white again.
