we had 8 hens. One got tossed out of the group because she was eating eggs. Another was moved in with the peas because the other hens were picking on her badly. Had 6 good ones for a while but lost one last week and another looks like she's going to die tomorrow - not eating or leaving the nest box, sort of just there. This has happened pretty quickly and I don't know why. Poops look normal, others look normal although they're missing lots of feathers on their backs. Didn't find anything like a stuck egg for the sick one unless it's stuck WAY up and I just can't feel it. So what has changed?? I changed out the shavings entirely a few days ago, filled the poop tray with Sweet PDZ so now just scooping, bought a new flock block for them. They have pumpkins from halloween to peck at and eat and a feeder full of layer pellets. Snacks of mealworms occasionally. Free choice feed and oyster shell. Two buckets full of clean water. Are they maybe ageing out?? They are ISA brown hens and are about 2 1/2 years old. Were always egg laying machines! until a few days ago. Now just one egg.....maybe. The hen who is in with the peas has stopped laying eggs in her little house as well. The nighttime temps have dropped from mid sixties to higher 20s and 30s REALLY fast! Their house is well ventilated up top, but secure at the same time. It is not heated in any way. Suggestions please??? I have no idea!
