How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

16 dozens? Where do you sell them? To the farmer's market? How hard is it to get a little booth at the farmer's market for my kids to sell eggs??
Hi, I'm in NZ, I do take them to the market but not the farmers market. Over here, they're easy to get in to. Depending where you are, I would check Facebook for local markets and contact their page. Just ask if you have to book in or if you just show up.
Depending on the age of your kids, a parent will have to be with them at all times as per market safety worldwide.
You could also put a blackboard at your gate or end of the street saying 'fresh eggs ** metres on L/R'
I'm getting around 45-49 eggs from 7 girls per week, and 2 more due to lay in a few weeks.
As long as you keep the eggs in the fridge, they're good for up to 4 months.
I've had a few weeks off the markets, it's winter an I hate getting out of bed lol so the fridge is full. I'm going to freeze 5-6 dozen, they keep for 1 year, and will go to the Polytechnic around the corner from me on Monday to see if they need eggs for the cafeteria.

I made use of 2 dozen tonight, (dated 1st- 4th may) good ol' chili garlic baked sausages an egg mix for me an a massive roasted egg mash for the production crew.. doz eggs, basil, thyme, oregano, cinnamon & chili flakes... All antibacterial spices that really do cure pneumonia in chickens, plus yummies for all of them.. an a boost of taste an color for the yolks ;). Super gold color. Not only that, they're super yummy with the herbs, I eat some before adding to their mash :)

Thank you! It doesn’t look like filtabac is available in the US unfortunately, but I will note down the basil/cinnamon paste for next time! I tried a bandaid, but the cut was right next to her toe nail and difficult to wrap because she was so small. It’s currently scabbed over and seems to not be a problem for her, but I’m keeping an eye on it.
When you're dealing with toenail cuts etc, get a thumb bandaid and put a small hole to poke the nail through and just seal it with a piece off the sticky end of the strip. I found this method good, and sometimes just close it in.
My roo has a tendency to slice his toenail trying to get through the fence occasionally. I just cover the whole toe and tape it to his foot. It annoys him but he gets over it :)

Contact your local vet and ask them what antibacterial/waterproof ointment they have for horses. (Don't ask for use on chickens, they just say no) I've worked for a vet and anything safe for horses is generally safe for dogs/chickens. They're always licking their wounds. Where chooks are concerned, just cover it to be sure. Most are ok on the skin, and not harmful if pecked at, but I prefer to take the precaution. :)
You can also add the basil and cinnamon to their feed (dry or wet) 1 tablespoon of each per day to fight infection. Oregano, thyme and garlic do the same but not external

Thank you for all of your helpful advice! I’m saving your posts in my notes for future injury treatment, and I’ll try to hunt down some of the ointment for horses. I only have 3 hens, so is 1 Tbsp the right amount of basil and cinnamon for their daily food? I usually give them 1 and 3/4 cups of feed daily.

How do you make her eat the calcium? My chickens won't go near it.
I give 1/4 of a tablet of calcium citrate 660mg every other day. I just pop it down her gullet. She isn’t happy with me but the alternative is her maybe laying soft eggs or breaking an egg internally.

I actually have about 3 or 4 girls on calcium at any one time. I have a young hen who has had issues with laying soft eggs and ‘eggs in eggs’. She gets calcium regularly, as does an older hen I have here who is 6yrs old.

She laid a lash egg after having a retained broke soft egg. I put her on a course of amoxicillin to prevent sepsis and help clear up her infection.

They are just like people, they get sick, have problems with being elderly, injure themselves…. Thankfully I am a trained Nurse so most things I can treat myself. And thank heavens I have an awesome Veterinarian whom has been my Equine Vet for almost 40 yrs. I also have access to a really good avian vet (who also has her own flock), when I need her to treat something.

Who knew chickens could be just as much stress as horses?!!
