What makes you think it nearly killed her?

I guess it didn't really, but she carried on and carried on with the bawk-bawk-BAWK-BAWK-buk-buk-BAWK!!!! Much longer than the usual I-laid-an-egg noise.

She was rolling frantically in the coop, bleeding quite a bit. I caught her up to see what the problem was and saw her vent being turned inside out. When I got her in the quarantine cage she settled a bit, but sat in this weird position making a crying sound and her legs kept twitching. I felt horrible that I couldn't cull right then, but it turned out to be a good thing.

Hopefully it was just pressure on the nerves from the big egg and not really life threatening. I know egg binding can be life threatening . Poor girl!

2 for sure, there may have been a 3rd egg, but I haven't had a chance to check since I left the house this morning. So, I will just call it 2 from 3 today.

Both of my Buff Minorcas are laying! Yeah! And now, one of the chickens in coop 1 laid an egg! I'm guessing it was an Australorp. That coop has Australorps and JG's and the egg was quite small. Guess I won't find out until this weekend when I'm home and can watch them! So out of 9 girls, 3 out of 9 so far! Happy, Happy, Happy!!!

7/9. There's actually 10 pullets, but I think the welsummer is sterile or something.

Edit: got 8. Ziggy the EE decided to lay late today.

6/7 laying (1 blue, 1 green, 1 pink, 3 browns). Still waiting on one to start laying.

3 today. But I don't know if one was from yesterday or not. We'll see how many I get tomorrow. It should be only 2 if today was truly a 3 egg day. Unless they have all decided to lay one a day (which I expect they will eventually get around to doing).
