We trade occasionally also, which is nice. Baked goods from girlfriends since they like using the fresh eggs, people who sell salsa/veggies at the farmers market who know we have chickens. But, for the most part, we sell for $3 a dozen. A feed store we use also takes them for $3.50 store credit...which really adds up. And my daughter can walk through my work and sell tons. She's 3 so she even gets tips. "Three dodders" she says, since dollars is a harder word. Lol Chicken math cracks me up because its so true. When people ask how many chickens we have and I really just take a guess they don't understand how I don't know. Because once you have a few dozen chickens...does an exact number matter?? Lol There's a lady I get my Marans eggs from near me. Pretty and dark and the chicks are very healthy and chubby if you don't have anyone to get them from. Just incase you can't find darker eggs. Black coppers.

LOL, my neighbors face was priceless when he asked how many we had... I honestly didn't know.. It was my husband who took the time to go out and do a head count...For me, I just didn't care

Gonna have to call my feed store when they start laying good, store credit would be soooo usefull!! and I will keep that in mind about Maran eggs

4/10... If that can now just be the low amount I'll be ok til the pullets start laying in March or April..



Had one of my older hens that has kept going back and setting on the nest off and on today, she is a sexlink so I know she aint thinking broody but she is the one that keeps giving me fart eggs once or twice a week and it takes her all day to lay it.. I keep hoping she still has some eggs in her otherwise she is stew meat later this month.. My white hen (not sure of the name but also a sexlink) has quit completely since last summer.

19/28 I think I may have an egg eater in my small coop I get very few eggs from there.

Most likely just stepped on it. I don't use those eggs for eating but I take them and scaramble them up and put in the tablescraps and feed them back to the chickens. Extra protein for them.

5/6 today. No holes in any of them, so hopefully you're right and it was just stepped on.

2 from 3 today
One of my 3 month old chickens disappeared. I think it was a rooster, so I'm not sure if the other 2 roosters ran it off or if a predator got it. I heard a ruckus, like chickens bothering chickens, earlier this evening. When I went out to lock up the birds I was 1 short. I looked all over for it with a flashlight but all I found were some feathers (no blood). Last summer we had 1 young rooster that ran off for 2 days and then came back. So who knows.
