Don't be too sure! My Red Sex Link Ida had all the classic "I'm getting ready to lay eggs and you can't stop me" symptoms and sure enough, about a week later got our first egg. Same breed, Dora, looked weeks away yet. But three days after Ida's first, I went out to the coop to clean the poop deck and Dora was in the nest next to the one Ida used. Presto - no signs of being close but I stayed out there with her, she stood, dropped her first egg and then looked at me like, "What is that and where the he!! did it come from?" It was another week or so of laying nice little pullet eggs before her symptom meter kicked in.Haven't posted for a while because my 2 year old layers went on a strike for several weeks and I was getting tired of reporting 0/3. Well, for the past 2-3 weeks I've been getting an egg or two a day from the big girls and have been waiting (not so patiently) for my pullets that we got as day old chicks in April to start laying. Yesterday, at the age of 18 weeks exactly my first of 4 BSL pullets layed her first egg.![]()
. And this morning when I went to cook it for breakfast found that it was also a double yolk!!!! This morning I went to check for eggs and found that she had layed again, and 2 of my big girls layed!
.
So, today, I got 3/4 (still not counting the remaining 3 pullets in the total count because even though they are aame age and breed as Andy, their combs and wattles are not fully developed yet and they aren't squatting yet. I'm guessing another month or so from them!

Was her comb and wattle fully developed and red? Mine are not. Andy is the only one with full red comb and wattle.
I'm pretty sure she was kidding but if not and that's what her chickens get fed, she can adopt me right now!@KentuckyMom I think she wasn't kidding about their menu...
The adoption depends on one thing, Quickster...if I feed you like that will you lay eggs for me?I'm pretty sure she was kidding but if not and that's what her chickens get fed, she can adopt me right now!
