How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I'm using the same waterers, I should look at my roosters to see how their combs look.  I looked over my girls who have big combs and did not see any frost bite.

Do you have the big green heated water bowls, farm innovations? Where did you get the sand idea?  Does that actually work?  I need pictures....I am very intrigued!

Here is what we had.....since this shot I did have it raised off the ground more.

Here is what I rigged up that NOBOY should do in a freezing climate

Here is what I ended up with, which I am unsure will work, it was already freezing at -1. So gonna have to wing it.

So let me explain the second shot and why steel is a bad idea in below zero, it also freezes. Dummy me forgot this little detail, I am sharing so that others may learn from my mistakes as there are a lot of first time winter chicken keepers on here. The poor girl that already had frost bite got her waddle stuck to the edge as evidenced by some splotches of blood on the medal edge. So I had to bring her inside and let her wounds congeal and then I treated with Blu Kote and took her back in with the gang. So anybody else have ideas for the waddles staying out of the water and off of freezing edges?

As far as putting sand onthe dog bowls, I got that on BYC of course! Don't remember which thread, there is discussion of the freezing waddles issues on the Natural Thread......

Concerned about the gang a bit, about to go out and check in them as it is -12 already and I am trying to keep the heat lamp off. Still a worried mama in this cold!

Went out about 45 ago and the coop was 14 and we were at 16% humidity. So no light tonight then coop should stay above 0.

Eggs today 15/23, I would expect less tomorrow given the cold today and then any before.

I found another secret nest today in the eves of the horses stable and there were 5 in it, but they will have been laid over the course of a week or so as it appears to be the same hen laying them judging by the colour and shape. Plus 3 in an official nest box this morning and I expect a couple more this afternoon. Getting a bit sick of needing a ladder to collect eggs at the moment with all these alternative nests in inaccessible places but the egg total for the week is going to be phenomenal! I'm running out of friends, family and neighbours to give them to!
And I thought winter time was going to be low on egg production! Or maybe I just have too many hens??..... No.... that can't be it. You can never have too many!!
