If you have production reds, a sex-links or white leghorns. I would put the layers feed and egg shells out for them at sixteen weeks. Most other breeds, offer to them at eighteen weeks. I would not feed them store bought egg shells, only from your own hens, Just to be safe! If you are switching to a layers pellet, mix 50/50 with the crumbles for a week or two, and toss some pellets on the ground as a treat instead of scratch or corn, two or three days before you switch to pellets. Many chickens do not like a change in feed, so this helps to make the transition more acceptable to the girls. GCwow! Didn't truly get how important it was to separate them. Definitely don't want rubber eggs:/ we've been collecting egg shell to place in extra tin, this is good isn't it? They don't need this till they lay right??
Thank you so much![]()
I have 6 laying hens (2 golden buffs, 2 red-sex links and 2 Easter Eggers). I'm only averaging about 3 eggs since I've got them. I'm feeding them the laying pellets with their scratch. Any suggestions as to why the other 3 aren't laying ??? Very very new to the chicken business (only being in it about a 2-3 weeks)
Does molten chickens still lay eggs ?? Silly question: but how can you tell ??
That first one is so excitingOur FIRST egg today!!!!! Golden Comet. 1 day before 18 weeks. Laid IN the nesting box. I'll upload pics and share tomorrow ♡ sooooo excited, especially after such a hard day today it made it worth it.
