wow! Didn't truly get how important it was to separate them. Definitely don't want rubber eggs:/ we've been collecting egg shell to place in extra tin, this is good isn't it? They don't need this till they lay right??
Thank you so much:)
If you have production reds, a sex-links or white leghorns. I would put the layers feed and egg shells out for them at sixteen weeks. Most other breeds, offer to them at eighteen weeks. I would not feed them store bought egg shells, only from your own hens, Just to be safe! If you are switching to a layers pellet, mix 50/50 with the crumbles for a week or two, and toss some pellets on the ground as a treat instead of scratch or corn, two or three days before you switch to pellets. Many chickens do not like a change in feed, so this helps to make the transition more acceptable to the girls. GC

7 eggs yesterday 8 the day before. I think black betty is molting now she probably won't lay again till spring :-

I have 6 laying hens (2 golden buffs, 2 red-sex links and 2 Easter Eggers). I'm only averaging about 3 eggs since I've got them. I'm feeding them the laying pellets with their scratch. Any suggestions as to why the other 3 aren't laying ??? Very very new to the chicken business (only being in it about a 2-3 weeks)

Does molten chickens still lay eggs ?? Silly question: but how can you tell ??

Buff, some molting chickens will lay but it depends on the chicken and their type of molt. I have 1 Mildred that is running a very very slow moLtd still lays 2 days in a row. Then betty who I mentioned above she lays 1-2 at a time on her better days won't lay in the heatop and I don't expect her to lay through the winter. Your chickens could also be stress moltingfrom the move, which given time of year if it follows into thier full molt you may not see eggs till spring. At 2-3 weeks most should be coming down from the stress, but light is decreasing and they will start their winter decline anyways.

My chickens do not have a winter decline I keep a white light
as it starts getting dark early I have it on a timer come on at 6a go off at
9pm then the red light goes on

Our FIRST egg today!!!!! Golden Comet. 1 day before 18 weeks. Laid IN the nesting box. I'll upload pics and share tomorrow ♡ sooooo excited, especially after such a hard day today it made it worth it.

17 eggs today my blue copper Marans exploded in puff of feathers when I picked her up to check why she was sad, molting hit my 17 month olds.
