I think my girls are getting past the shock of losing three sisters. I got 9/10. Only got 4 yesterday. I think the netting I put up will work to prevent the hawk from getting back into the coop.

Hawks are our biggest problem here too. I hope the netting works for you!

24 eggs today which means only 2 girls didn't lay.
(Sorry haven't been on much, dialysis is taking it's toll on son)
NO eaten eggs for 2 wks! Numbers have been around 19.

17 eggs today. I am running in a 5K tomorrow morning!! I hope I don't hurt myself'!! LOL, I haven't been running like I should be. 1 Broody's eggs due to hatch on Monday!!

Hi Gander, good egg count! How long do we have to wait until we know if the broody geese are successful? The 1 Black Penedesenca chick that was of good color, died yesterday. I had noticed the night before that it's beak was starting to look like it was cross beaked. It, the chick, also didn't seem to be as hardy as the other one. I was thinking I would have to cull it, but when I got home from work yesterday, it was already dead. Do you know if cross beak is genetic? I'm going to research it, but thought you might know.

karenerwin, I am looking at another 3 weeks or just before Easter and we should have some goslings running around the yard . So sorry to be reading about you chick so now you only have the one how lonely . Cross beak happens and it is also genetic and all chickens will produce at least one and others just way to many ...

We're well after winter solstice so temperature won't have any impact if one is in the Northern hemisphere. Days are now longer than nights. Most birds should be in full swing now if they're of egg laying age.
