did you have a light one in the coop ? mine lay all winter they have a light onThis past winter my chickens didn't slow down there laying at all. I'm not complaining at all, but I just wondered if that is normal or what? I was a little confused for a while.
Also, if it is their 1st winter, they sometimes lay throughout the winter. I'd say, count your blessings, but don't be surprised if next winter is different. Another factor is the breed of chicken, some tend to lay more during the winter than other breeds do.This past winter my chickens didn't slow down there laying at all. Very true, the number of hours of daylight you get per day or whether or not you provide artificial light all play a significant role in egg laying as well.Im no chicken pro but from what I have read were you live would have a lot to do with your chickens laying through the winter.
I live in Orlando Area and our winters are clear sky and at least 11 hours of light.
Molting would be something else to stop there laying.
Since it was my pullets first winter there molt was not total. I did clean up lots of feathers.
Im exspecting the next molt will be much worse.
