How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

The rooster in the coop with the raccoon definitely tried the defend his girls!! He snapped off a spur! And has some blood on his comb and is walking with a bit of a limp. I'm guessing the noise I heard last night was when the coon got spurred because the noise wasn't from a chicken. My hubby said you could tell the coon was guilty because of all the chicken feathers in its' mouth. Sitting out by the big "disposal " bonfire now. Lol. Way too hot for a bonfire but you do what you got to do. Haven't collected eggs yet today. Did enjoy watching the eclipse!

Next time (hopefully won't be a next time) you might try feeding the chickens the invader. Pretty ironic when the one attempting to eat your chickens gets eaten by those same chickens.

Pulled 2 days worth since I was away in eclipse mode yesterday. 28 eggs from 18 hens & pullets over 2 days.

Next time (hopefully won't be a next time) you might try feeding the chickens the invader. Pretty ironic when the one attempting to eat your chickens gets eaten by those same chickens.

I've tried that before and the silly chickens don't eat the dead predators.
On a sad note, the rooster died last night. He didn't go to coop so I brought him in to check him out and put antibiotics on his broken spur. Turns out he was very torn up under both wings I wish I had known that earlier,but I still don't think he would have made it. Poor guy.
I did get 10 eggs today. Only 2 from the attacked coop. They only gave me 1 yesterday. I did move 1 of my young roosters over to this coop at bedtime. He was slated for the butcher's block because I have/had 4 young roosters that were "extra".

I am very sorry about your Rooster... looks like others are in molt now sitting with 9 ... anyone else feel as we get older the years are flying by?

Yes to time flies as we get older...I was setting a follow up task at work and couldn't believe it's almost September! Fall is my favorite time of year though.

Was very uncomfortable yesterday. Extremely humid and upper 80s.
It stayed in the mid 70s last night with nearly 100% humidity. I had the fan on high in the coop last night.
Much more comfortable this afternoon, with 5 to 10 MPH wind and low humidity.
