How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

8 eggs again today. Kicked one hen off her nest. She killed 2 more chicks. I'm not sure what is happening. I usually find them in their shells, which is very brittle and the shell is mashed and the chick is dead and cold. So I don't know if they are ready to hatch ( they look fully formed but their legs are usually still drawn up like they haven't pushed their way out of the shell yet) and she accidentally crushed the shells because they are to brittle ( like they get in the incubator at hatch time) or if she is just a bad broody and she kills them. I think I'm going to butcher her because I think she is the same hen that did the same thing before. :he

Is she with the rest of chickens sharing nest? I lost a few eggs and chicks with other hens trying to get in the broody hens nests.

No, there are 3 nest boxes and 7 hens. 2 hens are broody, taking up 2 of the 3 boxes. The other hens have decided to lay their eggs on the floor of the cop in the corner. I haven't seen or heard anyone else trying to get in "the broody nest boxes".

I understand wanting to let broody chickens hatching there own eggs. I did it one time only.
If you have a large coop with a dozen or more chickens, it is not worth the trouble.Losing chicks, and all the extra care to try to feed and water them in a coop is to much for me. Incubator and a brooder is by far the least trouble.Unless you can spend your entire day tending your chickens!
