How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Hmm, gonna be hard to figure out something to do with that one! When I get little 30g ones they work for half a recipe that requires one large egg.

Even my silkie ones are 40g! Just a fairy egg

Well we had 12 today that had shells and one without. Though one of the eggs had such a thin shell that it broke when the hen laid it. Both girls laid eggs with no shells day before yesterday.

I am going to have to see about getting the two girls to eat more calcium. I know which two are laying them so at least that is a start. These are two of the girls that most recently just started laying so I am sure some of it is natural and they need to work out the kinks in their systems.

I have oyster shells available free choice. I have layer feed mixed with flock raiser because some of the younger girls haven’t started laying yet.

Maybe I should limit their free range time to encourage them to eat their food? Any other suggestions?

I would encourage you to stop mixing the feed see if things straighten out themselves pick the highest usually the grower that can be fed daily even to layers

I bragged on here once because I was getting 18 from 20 hens .... well now we combined those two flocks and we’re getting 8-10

They are still trying to decide who will be the leader

I would keep them in for the mornings for a week or so to see if you notice a difference, they could be so distracted by the grass that they aren’t consuming enough layer feed and calcium ... try it and see

Yesterday got 9 eggs...found a nest of 5 from two layers!!! In two days it won't be terrible hot so I will be locking them up til they ALL lay in the nest boxes again

I put them up at dusk the night before, got 6 eggs that day and none were in the nest when I put them to bed. Has anyone ever gotten more than one egg per hen per day?

Sometime new layers or even old layers will do this (lays couple a day). I had multiple EEs that layed 2 eggs or giant egg double yolks for few weeks.

Yeah I think I had the odd day with 2 eggs - also got a few double yokers, it was when they all started laying.

Not checked today yet - worrying about my hatch which is a total disaster! 1 chick so far from 24 eggs (18 that should have been OK and the other 6 were a gift to eat).
