What are pea-eggs?I've been slipping pea-eggs in there just to mess with her.![]()
I'm not sure what you actually call the eggs of peafowl, so I've been calling them pea-eggs haha. Theyre the size of double or triple yolks. What are pea-eggs?
I’ve been getting double yokers about every other day and they are big but not nearly as big as the egg in your picture. I am curious if that egg has 2-3 yolks in it...
Peafowl actually have a breeding season, it's not year round like chickens. The boys grow out their tails and dance for the ladies to hopefully be accepted by the hens to mate. All my birds are mixed together. The peafowl roost 60+ feet up in the trees, waaay higher than the chickens. I dont eat the peafowl eggs. Next season I may take them away from the hens (if I can find the nests which is fairly unlikely) to see if I can get them to lay more? I'm not sure how that works.Do you eat the pea-eggs? Do you have the peafowl intermixed with your chickens? I don’t know anything about peafowl. Do they roost with the chickens? What’s it like having Peafowl?
I haven't opened that one yet. The other one had 2 yolks, and I had it for breakfast yesterday. I'm saving this one.are you sure there’s not a turkey hiding in your coop?that thing is huge!! Does it have multiple yolks?
They'd been laying in the two outside boxes and leaving the 2 inside boxes empty. So I put a ceramic egg in each of the 2 inside boxes and came back to find a new egg in one of them.I've been slipping pea-eggs in there just to mess with her.![]()
I am so happy to report that I got 16 eggs yesterday! We were in the path of the Bear/North Complex fire and my chickens were very traumatized. Their food shed burned down and the coop almost burned too. When we got home from evacuation, some hens and my main rooster, Harvey, were hiding in the coop and wouldn't come out for 2 days. I had to go out and talk to them and tell them that they are now safe to get them out. Almost all of them went into a molt and lost all their feathers, it looked like a chicken slaughterhouse out there! I was only seeing 2 eggs a day for almost a month and a half. Now they are happy again and acting normally. So much better!
